Import Landed Cost Calculator for Buying Sarees and Fabric from India

Works out what an order from India really costs at your door abroad: CIF value, customs duty, import tax, clearing, cost per piece in your currency.

Quick answer
  • Landed cost = invoice + freight + insurance (together the CIF value) + customs duty on CIF + import tax on (CIF + duty) + clearing and delivery.
  • Landed cost per piece = landed cost ÷ pieces; multiply by your exchange rate for your currency.
  • Duty and tax rates depend on your country and the product's HS code: get them from your customs broker and type them in.

How the import landed cost calculator works

CIF value = cost of the goods + insurance + freight to your port or airport. Many customs offices charge duty on the CIF value; some use the FOB value. Ask your broker which one yours uses.

Customs duty = CIF × duty %. Import tax (VAT or GST) is usually charged on CIF plus duty. Some countries add further levies: add them to the tax % or to clearing charges.

Clearing covers the broker's fee, port or airport charges and delivery to your shop. Landed cost is the sum, divided by the number of pieces for a cost per piece, and converted at your exchange rate (1 INR = your rate).

We don't publish duty rates: they change and depend on how your customs classifies each product. This calculator only does the arithmetic with the rates you enter.

Frequently asked questions

What is landed cost?

Landed cost is the full cost of goods once they reach your shop: the supplier's invoice plus freight, insurance, customs duty, import taxes and clearing charges. Price your stock from the landed cost, not from the invoice alone.

What is CIF value?

CIF stands for cost, insurance and freight: the value of the goods plus the insurance and freight to your port. Many countries charge customs duty on the CIF value.

Where do I find the customs duty for sarees in my country?

Ask your customs broker or clearing agent, or check your country's customs tariff for the product's HS code. Rates differ between silk, synthetic and cotton sarees and between fabric and finished garments, and they change.

Is courier or cargo cheaper for a saree order?

Courier is usually quicker and simpler for small orders and samples. Cargo by air or sea usually costs less per kilo for larger orders but needs a clearing agent at your end. Ask for both quotes once your order size is known.

Do you export to Sri Lanka, Nepal and Bangladesh?

Yes. Dhananjay Creations exports sarees and fabric from Surat. Buyers from Sri Lanka, Nepal and Bangladesh send us hundreds of enquiries a year, and our team shares photos, videos and a proforma invoice on WhatsApp.
