Banarasi soft silk sarees bring the zari motifs of a Banarasi saree to a softer, lighter fabric that drapes easily and costs far less than a handloom silk. In our range each saree is 5.5 metres long with a 0.8 metre unstitched blouse piece, weighs roughly 420 to 560 grams, and is dry clean only. For most shops it is the easiest silk saree to sell all year.
It is also our biggest range: over four hundred Banarasi soft silk designs, in colours from pastels to deep jewel shades. This guide shares what we have learnt about stocking and selling them.
What is a Banarasi soft silk saree?
It is a saree woven in the Banarasi style, with zari butta, brocade, jaal and rich pallus, on a soft silk fabric instead of the heavier traditional silk. The soft fabric is what customers notice first: it falls smoothly, pleats neatly and is comfortable for long functions. That makes it a good choice for weddings, receptions, festivals and family occasions where the customer wants the Banarasi look without the weight.

The weaves and zari your customers will ask about
- Gold zari is the classic choice for weddings and the most requested.
- Copper zari gives a warmer, antique look that suits deeper colours.
- Silver zari looks fresh and modern on pastels and dark colours alike.
- Butta and butti are small motifs scattered across the body; they keep the saree light and elegant.
- Brocade and jaal cover the saree with woven pattern for a richer, festive look.
- Temple borders, zari checks and contrast pallus borrow from Kanchipuram styles and sell well for bridal wear.
How to build a range that sells
Spread your colours. Many of our designs come as a set of four to seven shades. Taking one design in several colours lets a customer choose without you stocking dozens of different designs.
Mix zari types. Keep gold zari for the wedding corner, then add copper and silver zari so younger customers and repeat buyers see something new.
Cover each occasion. Heavy brocade and rich pallus for weddings, butta designs for festivals and functions, lighter designs for regular wear. Our wedding, traditional and Banarasi categories make this easy to plan.
Reorder what moves. When a design sells out, reorder the same design from us instead of replacing it with something similar. Customers often come back asking for the exact saree a friend bought.
Selling tips for your counter
- Open the pallu and the border first; that is where the zari work is.
- Let the customer hold it. The light weight and soft drape are the main reasons people choose soft silk.
- Mention the 0.8 metre unstitched blouse piece, so they can plan the stitching.
- Show the product video from our site on your phone for customers who want to see the drape.
Care advice to give your customers
Dry clean only. Store the saree folded in a cotton or muslin cloth, away from damp, and refold it along different lines every few months so the zari does not crease in one place. Spray perfume before wearing the saree, not on it, to keep the zari bright.
